Isla Tortuga



Isla Tortuga is a pristine island in the southern Caribbean Sea , 170 km from Caracas , and 140 km from the island of Margarita . The island is shaped like a 12 km ellipse, measured from north to south, and 25 km from east to west. It has many adjacent keys, which makes it the second largest island in size of Venezuela , second to Margarita .

La Tortuga forms a group of islands that includes:

  • Los Tortuguillos Island, with its islands Tortuguillo del Este and Tortuguillo del Oeste.
  • Cayo Herradura.
  • It also includes other low or formations.
  • Bajo de Los Palanquines.
  • Ño Martin Keys.
  • El Vapor Islet.
  • Punta de Rancho Keys.

It is visited by migratory birds and fishermen who frequent the island, specifically between the months of September and April, because during that time you can see species like corocoros, rays, groupers, snappers and lobsters.

It is a desert island, its only temporary inhabitants are mirandinos margariteños and fishermen; Recently, a small landing aperturo track, but it is not in operation. La Tortuga is characterized by emerald blue waters, making it perfect for swimmers paradise to visit.

  • Punta Oriental.
  • Carenero Bay.
  • Punta Mulato.
  • Herradura Key.
  • Los Tortuguillos.

Getting there:

Para realizar este tour tienes dos opciones:

For this tour you have two options: Travel from your city to the city of Caracas, and go to the meeting point to leave for Higuerote. (For large groups, we offer the option to transfer directly from the airport of Maiquetia).

If you live in Caracas, you can move on your own the city of Higuerote, and stay overnight at our Inn, and we can also include your transfer directly from Caracas in our private transport (in case of not having your own car).

Tour duration:

For this excursion you need a minimum of 4 days and 3 nights.

The tour only runs on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays – it s not permitted by the national government to travel to the island the rest of the week - so the tour, would take place from Friday to Sunday (3 days), but you should take note that you must travel to Higuerote on Thursday night; if you are in another city you can travel the same Thursday during the day.The return from Isla La Tortuga, is after lunch, so if you want to catch a flight the same day to return to your city should be the last flight in the evening.

Deluxe Option

INCLUDES:

  • Transfer Maiquetia - Higuerote (round trip) or Caracas - Higuerote (round trip).
  • 2 nights hotel in Higuerote - On Thursday before sailing and on Sunday after returning from the island.

About Bookings:

This tour must be booked paying 50% and the rest 12 days before your trip.

Additional Information:

  • Safety and enjoyment are our main focus, if there are any unforeseen navigation complications, the trip will be rescheduled by mutual agreement with the participant, following the availability of new dates scheduled trips.
  • It is mandatory to fill in the saling form a day before the trip. No returns will be filled the same day of travel.
  • The boats are serviced GPS and radio communication to shore also remain throughout the journey with you, taking them to different destinations on the island. The boats are 27 foot, twin outboard of 150 horses, and have lifeguards for each passenger vests.
  • It is not advisable to bring children under 10 years of age.
  • The boats depart at 6:00 am to the island, so if you choose the standard tour, we recommend be there 1 hour before departure.
  • The return of the island to Higuerote, is 3:00 pm.
  • The luggage should be a small bag (30 cm x 60 cm x 30cm) with a maximum of 10 kg.
  • It is important to bring enough sunscreen; the only shade is the structure of our camp. Please avoid sunburn.
  • If you are allergic to any type food, or have a strict regimen of meals (vegetarian, vegan, gluten), you must provide the information in advance to take appropriate measures.
  • If you suffer from dizziness, you should take anti-nausea medications before sailing night and early morning.
  • Starfish can NOT be removed from the water. Please abide by the instructions of the captain of the vessel.
  • Time way trip to Cayo Herradura: 4 hrs average; and back average 3 hours.
  • Time of departure from La Tortuga: 1:30 pm.
  • Our vessel will be monitored via radio repeater for our safety.
